Presentation
58 year old female presents for routine mammogram.
Imaging Technique
Plain X-ray
Imaging Findings
There is a lucent oval shaped lesion in the deep mid portion of the right breast seen only on the MLO view. The CC view technique pushes the lesion off the edge of the film cassette. This lesion is unchanged from comparisons at least back through 1993.
Diagnosis
Lipoma of the breast.
Discussion
Lipomas of the breast have a characteristic appearance of a lucent space occupying mass surrounded by a capsule which in this cases is seen as a thin white line around the edge of the lesion. The surrounding breast parenchyma is normal. Typically lipomas are soft and freely mobile and are most commonly seen in post menopausal women.
