Presentation

63 year old female for annual screening mammogram. History of fibrocystic disease.

Imaging Technique

Plain X-ray Ultrasound

Imaging Findings

Mammogram:well defined 4 x 2 x 2 cm mixed density lesion in the right breast at the 9:00 position
Ultrasound: heterogeneous echogenic mass which appears to be encapsulated.

Diagnosis

Breast Hamartoma

Discussion

Hamartoma: Rare benign well circumcsribed round/ovoid mass of mixed density (secondary to fat and water). Soft and often non-palpable. 2-16:10,000 mmg. mean age 45 (27-88). Smooth capsule. May contain calcifications. Peripheral radiolucent zone.
