1. Tc-99m HMPAO SPECT
study
IMPRESSION
- Intense accumulation of the
radiotracer in the left medial, inferior, and superior
temporal lobe
- Other cortical structures are
unremarkable
- The findings are consistent with
herpes simplex encephalitis
2. MRI and HMPAO-MR
overlay images
IMPRESSION
- Abnormal T2 signal involving the
anterior and medial left temporal lobe, extending
superiorly till the insular region, involving both the
white and the gray matter
- Mild mass effect with minimal
effacement of the temporal horn of the left lateral
ventricle
- Patchy enhancement of the
posteromedial temporal lobe on post contrast
sequences
- No mass lesions/ No evidence of
hemorrhage or infarction.
- Extensive signal abnormality
involving the left temporal lobe
