IMPRESSION

  • Intense accumulation of the radiotracer in the left medial, inferior, and superior temporal lobe
  • Other cortical structures are unremarkable
  • The findings are consistent with herpes simplex encephalitis

2. MRI and HMPAO-MR overlay images

IMPRESSION

  • Abnormal T2 signal involving the anterior and medial left temporal lobe, extending superiorly till the insular region, involving both the white and the gray matter
  • Mild mass effect with minimal effacement of the temporal horn of the left lateral ventricle
  • Patchy enhancement of the posteromedial temporal lobe on post contrast sequences
  • No mass lesions/ No evidence of hemorrhage or infarction.
  • Extensive signal abnormality involving the left temporal lobe
